Chinese Cyber Espionage More Extensive Than Suspected, Says Dutch Military Intel

Beijing routinely denies allegations of cyber espionage (Representational)

Dutch army intelligence mentioned on Monday that Chinese language cyber espionage was extra in depth than it had initially thought, concentrating on Western governments and defence firms.

The MIVD company mentioned a Chinese language state-backed hacking group that was behind a 2023 hacking assault on the Dutch defence ministry had claimed no less than 20,000 victims worldwide in a number of months, and probably much more.

China’s embassy in The Hague didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark. Beijing routinely denies allegations of cyber espionage and says it opposes all types of cyberattack.

“Targets included dozens of Western governments, worldwide organisations, and quite a few firms working within the defence business”, the MVID mentioned in a press release.

It urged organisations to undertake the “Assume Breach” precept, during which it’s assumed {that a} profitable digital assault has already taken place or will happen quickly.

In April, MIVD mentioned in its annual report that Chinese language spies had focused Dutch semiconductor, aerospace and maritime industries to attempt to strengthen China’s armed forces.
